US President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum both confirmed on Monday that they had made a deal to temporarily delay the 25% blanket tariff on Mexican imports that Trump had announced over the weekend.
Trump claimed that his Monday morning conversation with Sheinbaum was “very friendly”. Trump and the Mexican president both confirmed that Mexico would send 10,000 additional troops to the US southern border to assist in stopping the flow of drugs and illegal migrants. It remains to be seen whether the 25% tariff Trump had announced will be reinstated in the future, however it appears that Trump’s threat of using the economic tool resulted in an important concession from the Mexican president.
